The Miami Dolphins could be getting a key piece of their offensive line back just in time for a critical matchup against the Detroit Lions.
After missing last Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots , left guard Kadyn Proctor returned to practice Wednesday, Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley announced, as the rookie continues progressing through concussion protocol.
The Dolphins' rushing attack took a hit without Proctor in the lineup
Proctor was later spotted without a red, no-contact jersey, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. That could indicate the rookie is nearing the final stages of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, which includes a return to full-contact practice and football-specific activities.
Without Proctor last week, the Dolphins started Jarrett Kingston at left guard, and their rushing attack suffered. After surpassing 100 rushing yards in each of their previous five games, Miami managed just 74 yards on the ground in its 24-19 loss to the Patriots.
The Dolphins currently rank 11th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (123.3). Getting Proctor back would provide a significant boost as Miami prepares to face a Detroit offense that can put up points quickly.
The Lions lead the NFL in total offense, averaging 395.4 yards per game, and rank third in scoring at 29 points per game. However, Detroit's defense has struggled, ranking 29th in yards allowed (373.1) and 23rd in points allowed (25.7).
With the Lions boasting one of the league's most explosive offenses, Miami can't afford to leave its own attack sputtering. Proctor's potential return could be a major boost as the Dolphins look to get back on track.
