It increasingly feels as though every other headline in the NBA landscape revolves around the Los Angeles Clippers , and not for the reasons that reflect positivity within or around the franchise. In recent weeks, both the organization and its players appear to leave no stone unturned in what many perceive as a continuous show of disrespect towards future Hall of Famer Chris Paul .
After waving the 12-time All-Star, Paul reportedly attempted to foster some sense of unity by hosting a holiday party for team bonding. However, only three players showed up. For Kendrick Perkins , this episode was the final straw, as he openly expressed frustration with even discussing the Clippers anymore, simply because the team is irrelevant in today's NBA realm.
Perkins pours outright hate on the Clippers
From the very start of the 2025-26 season, controversy has followed the Clippers. All of this started when, in the offseason, reports surfaced that Kawhi Leonard had received $28 million in off-the-record payments to join the team in the summer of 2019. Then, when the team simply couldn't find ways to win games, matters only worsened when the team waived CP3, who was on his farewell tour, for holding the players and coaches accountable for not establishing a winning culture.
Speaking on an episode of the "Road Trippin'" podcast, Perk admitted he was baffled at the level of media attention the Clippers team was still getting, when they are just 6-21 in the Western Conference standings and currently one loss away from being the 15th seed. Perkins made it clear that the Clippers are no longer worthy of his analysis and that he would not waste his energy on a lackluster team.
"I don't give a damn, and I say that from the bottom of my soul — about the Clippers and the Chris Paul news — I don't care about anything. I had no expectations from them coming into the season. I didn't think they was gonna be s—t, they're not s—t; I didn't have nothing for them," Perkins said . "I don't have anything for them right now… They're 5/6-20, who gives a damn? I don't care about them, that's what I'm saying?"
The Clippers are losing their relevance
Ever since the Clippers formed the much-hyped duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, expectations of championship contention followed them relentlessly. However, even now, with James Harden replacing PG as the perceived leader, the franchise appears stuck in limbo. There is no young cornerstone to build around, and the veteran core tasked with leading the team has shown little ability to compete at a high level, especially as other Western Conference rivals continue to get more challenging.
So, while Perkins may be among the first high-profile analysts to dismiss the Clippers as a lost cause openly, he may not be the last. If the team fails to show meaningful improvement or establish a clear direction, likely, more analysts will soon echo the sentiment.
