Several players took to social media after news broke that the Patriots would release Stefon Diggs when the new league year begins next week.
Quarterback Drake Maye posted a picture of him and Diggs to his Instagram story with a simple read heart emoji.
Wide receiver Kyle Williams also posted a photo of him hugging Diggs: “The greatest. Beyond blessed n grateful.”
Wide receiver Efton Chism III : “Blessed to have crossed paths.”
Wide receiver Pop Douglas: “4eva love brudda.”
Diggs signed a three-year deal with the Patriots last offseason. The 32-year-old had a $26.5 million cap hit over the next two seasons, and sources told MassLive at the NFL Scouting Combine that they wanted him to restructure his contract.
The Patriots will save $16.8 million on the cap and have $9.7 million in dead money.
Diggs played a key role in New England ’s success last year. It’s unclear how the Patriots will replace his production, but they have cap space and assets to make sure Maye has a legitimate weapon in 2026.
