Ducks rumors: Anaheim's offer to Leo Carlsson 'hours' before Flyers offer sheet appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Anaheim Ducks were stunned when Leo Carlsson signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. The Ducks have seven days to match the offer sheet. If they don't, Carlsson will spend the next five seasons with the Flyers. Regardless of their decision, the former second overall pick will own the league's highest cap hit at $18 million.
It's hard to overstate the significance of this move. Offer sheets themselves are a rarity in the NHL. It's generally seen as uncooth to offer sheet a young, franchise player. However, GMs are getting much bolder in a new rising cap environment.
On Friday night, Sportsnet NHL insider Elliotte Friedman wrote a piece on the Carlsson situation. And he revealed both what the Ducks' latest offer was, as well as what the young center was asking for in his next contract.
"According to several sources, the Ducks and Carlsson's representatives held a call hours before the offer sheet dropped. Anaheim's offer was believed to be between $12-$13 million. No doubt the Ducks thought they'd come a long way. A few other teams said they heard the ask was in the $15 million range," Friedman wrote.
Carlsson had an incredible season in 2025-26, though he did suffer an injury midway through the year. The 21-year-old finished with 29 goals and 67 points in 70 games. In the playoffs, he added four goals and 11 points in 12 games as the Ducks fell to the Vegas Golden Knights in round two.
Anaheim has a massive decision ahead of them. No matter what they choose, the outlook of this franchise has been changed forever. Only time will tell what general manager Pat Verbeek elects to do.
