There is just a few days until the start of the 2026-27 college basketball season as things tip off on Monday night for most teams. For the Duke Blue Devils , they are hosting Army in Cameron Indoor Stadium as another exciting campaign gets underway.
And with that comes high expectations for the Blue Devils once again .
Last time we saw Duke on the court in a game that counted was in the Elite Eight when they blew a 19-point lead to UConn and saw their season end in disappointment. While it's a different roster this season, the expectations are the same.
Jon Scheyer and his staff have built another good roster using the top recruiting class, a good transfer class and bringing back key players. Duke's depth could go 10 deep and the rotations they could use will be very good. We know about players like John Blackwell, Dame Sarr, Patrick Ngongba , Cayden Boozer, Caleb Foster , and Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje. But Scheyer and his staff may have another secret weapon.
Power forward Sebastian Wilkins is entering his second season as a four-star recruit in the 2025 class. He didn't do much in his first year but instead of seeking a transfer, he worked hard and returned to the program.
Now, Scheyer is praising him.
In an interview with The Devils Den , Scheyer had nothing but praise for Wilkins. He told the podcast that Wilkins was incredibly secure with his approach to the offseason. He wanted to come back and wasn't asking about other players or what his role will be. Instead, he wanted to focus on himself and his game, knowing what he can do to get better.
Wilkins won't be a starter this season and he probaly wont even be in their first 10 but he can make a difference off the bench even if it's a few minutes per game. With his size, he can provide some length to help Duke in the post.
Time will tell what role he will play but if Scheyer is praising him this early, that means his on his good side. Let's hope Wilkins can play a role and earn some valuable playing time for the Blue Devils this season.
Duke and Army will tipoff of Monday night at 6:30 p.m. from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
