Duke
won the ACC Championship despite losing five regular season games - only two in the conference - so it can be done, but it didn't have to face Miami, SMU, or Louisville.
This year's schedule is far more difficult - and it has to do it without QB Darian Mensah
(Too soon! Too soon!) to handle the attack.
Here's our analysis of the 2026 Duke football schedule.

The Good
The midsection of the season isn't bad.
Duke has a run of four games in six against teams that didn't go to a bowl game, and eight games overall are in North Carolina
. There are just two road games before late October, and ...
The Bad
November is a monster. The Blue Devils
play three of their last four on the road, and it starts with trips to NC State and Miami. The lone home game against Clemson isn't exactly a reprieve.
Tulane
will still be good - it beat Duke last year. That's not an easy way to start, followed up by a trip to Illinois
.
What ACC Teams Duke Will Miss
Cal, Florida State
, Louisville, North Carolina, Pitt, SMU, Syracuse, Virginia Tech
.
Again, last year, Duke missed most of the top teams, including Miami - and it won the ACC Championship. This year, it misses four teams that didn't go to a bowl game, but missing Louisville, SMU, and Florida State is good.
Duke's Best and Worst Case Scenarios in 2026
Best Case: Duke starts 2-0
Tulane, and at Illinois. There are enough landmines the rest of the way to be worried if there's a slow start, but Duke wins the first two tough non-conference games, beats Stanford
and William & Mary, and it's 4-0 before getting a week off to get ready for Georgia Tech
.
It takes care of Wallace Wade, wins at least three of the last four road games, and goes back to the ACC Championship. Or ...
Worst Case: It's another 1-2 start
The Blue Devils did just fine last year after a slow 1-2 start, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if it starts 0-2 but gets by Stanford.
However, this year's schedule is more dangerous. Duke loses at Georgia Tech and Virginia, and collapses in November to not only miss out on the ACC Championship, but whiff on getting to a bowl.

Games That Will Decide Duke's Season
1. at Georgia Tech, Oct. 10
To keep hammering on this, Duke won the ACC Championship anyway, but ... it would've been nice to have beaten Georgia Tech last season. This year, this comes after the week off to start a run of eight straight weeks of ACC battles.
2. at NC State, Nov. 7
Duke opened the ACC season with a 12-point win over the Wolfpack. This time around, it's a huge game that start November as part of a run of three road games in four. It's a must-win, because next is ...
3. at Miami, Nov. 14
It'll be an assumed Miami win. Manny Diaz going against the Hurricanes in Hard Rock? Let's go.
