This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Freeney, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, reflected on the coaching influence of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
"I think he's obviously a Hall of Fame coach; you know where, when he will be in the Hall of Fame at some point. He's left his mark; his lineage tree is just long, and many guys have been under his wing at some point, are now head coaches and coordinators." said Freeney, "I think that's a big way you can show how good of a coach you really were when you look at how many people that were your assistant coaches, were your coordinators who had head coach positions, not necessarily were they successful at what they've done, but how many guys have actually had that opportunity."
John Harbaugh, Sean McDermott and Ron Rivera are some of the many names that have come from Reid's tree. Doug Pederson played for Reid and coached a Super Bowl-winning team during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"A lot of factors that could play into whether you keep your job or not from a player personnel standpoint," said Freeney, "but I think Andy, he's just been a great coach and staple in whatever organization, whether it be the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs. Now that I think about it, whatever he decides, I think he's left his mark."
The annual tournament awarded $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities.
