The Philadelphia Eagles pulled the plug on 2025 sixth-round pick Myles Hinton this Saturday. It's a bold move, and NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the roster cut just hours after the announcement. Hinton, 24, couldn't find his footing during the summer workouts, and the front office decided they're done waiting around for potential when the regular season clock is ticking down. They won't keep a player who can't perform on the field.
Hinton's time in Philadelphia was short and messy. The team originally tried moving him to guard earlier this offseason to find a better spot for his skills. That experiment failed, so they shoved him back to offensive tackle where he simply didn't play well. The coaching staff saw too many mistakes and not enough progress. You can't stay on a roster when you can't beat out the competition or show you can protect the quarterback. The Eagles need guys who can step in and help right now, not rookies who need more time to learn the basics.
It's hard to stay.
This isn't the first time the Eagles have trimmed their 2025 draft class. Kyle McCord and Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr were previously cut to make room for better talent. Powell-Ryland even made some plays against the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday night before his release (yes, he had a moment before getting the axe). Now Hinton joins that list as the third member of the class to be dismissed. The remaining rookies, like LB Jihaad Campbell and S Andrew Mukuba, still have a shot to make the final roster. But the message is clear: if you don't play well, you won't be here.
Hinton might clear waivers and land on the practice squad, but that's a big if. Earlier this year, Jeff Stoutland departed the Eagles, yet he appeared to be a strong supporter of Hinton when the player was drafted. The new coaching staff has different ideas about what this team needs. The player will likely look for a fresh start with another team that sees more value in his size. With players like Ty Robinson rebounding from early struggles, the competition remains fierce for every spot on the 53-man roster.
