Eagles have a league-high four players released Sunday claimed on waivers originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
Four players the Eagles released on Sunday who were all likely practice squad additions have been claimed by other teams.
Offensive linemen Cameron Williams and Myles Hinton , a pair of 6th-round picks last year, tight end Cam Latu and safety Kapena Gushiken were all awarded on waiver claims, which the league announced Tuesday.
Everyone else the Eagles released — including football newcomers Uar Bernard and Joshua Weru from the International Player Pathway program — cleared waivers, becoming free agents who the Eagles can now try to add to the practice squad.
Williams was claimed by the Falcons, Hinton by the Bengals, Latu by the Patriots and Gushiken by the Colts.
The Eagles weren't awarded any players on waivers. Based on their record last year, they were 20th in waiver claim priority. Waiver claims this time of year are awarded in reverse order of last year's record or the same order as the draft.
No other team had more than two players claimed. The Chiefs, Broncos, Cowboys, Panthers, Colts and 49ers had two each. Fifteen teams didn't have any players claimed.
Latu, a former 3rd-round pick of the 49ers, had a strong summer and it was a little surprising the Eagles kept E.J. Jenkins as a fourth tight end instead. Latu played well in the joint practices in Foxborough, which surely made an impression on the Patriots.
Williams, Hinton and Latu all spent time with the Eagles last year. Williams was on Injured Reserve most of the season before playing in the season finale against Washington. Hinton was also with the team mainly on IR last year. Latu played in 15 games with 103 offensive snaps and 256 on special teams, 6th-most on the team. Gushiken is an undrafted rookie from Ole Miss.
