- Eagles players whose camp performance could change negative chatter
Training camp does not erase every concern, but it can change the tone around a player quickly.
The Philadelphia Eagles enter camp with one of the NFL's deepest rosters, but several players will arrive with something to answer. Some are trying to hold off the competition. Some are trying to prove they can handle larger roles. Others are established starters who have become easy targets in broader conversations about consistency, conditioning, contract value, offensive fit, or long-term projection.

For the Eagles , that creates several important storylines beyond the obvious position battles. A strong camp from Jalen Hurts could settle the conversation about how quickly the offense can adjust after A.J. Brown 's departure. A dominant summer from Jalen Carter could remind everyone why he is one of the league's most disruptive defensive linemen. Kelee Ringo , Grant Calcaterra , Darius Cooper , Cam Jurgens , and Michael Carter II all have different paths to changing how they are viewed before Week 1.
Here are seven Eagles whose camp performances could change negative chatter.
1. CB Kelee Ringo
Ringo may face the most difficult perception battle because the Eagles' cornerback room is loaded. Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen project as the top outside corners, Cooper DeJean remains one of the defense's most valuable movable pieces, and Philadelphia added veteran competition with Jonathan Jones , Jakorian Bennett , Michael Carter II, Shaun Wade , Tariq Castro-Fields, Ambry Thomas , Mac McWilliams , and Kapena Gushiken, all part of the broader defensive back picture.

That depth can make Ringo easy to overlook, but it also gives him a chance to change the conversation quickly. He has the size, speed, and developmental background to remain firmly in the roster and game-day discussion if he has a strong camp. The negative chatter is not that Ringo lacks talent. The room may have become too crowded for him to hold a meaningful role. If he plays with physicality, limits explosives, and shows improvement in route recognition, he can remind the Eagles why his traits still matter.
2. TE Grant Calcaterra
Calcaterra is not a flashy name, but this training camp will matter because the Eagles' tight end room has changed. Dallas Goedert remains the starter, while Eli Stowers brings rare athletic upside as a rookie, and Johnny Mundt , Stone Smartt , E.J. Jenkins, Cameron Latu , and Dae'Quan Wright give Philadelphia several options behind him.
The negative chatter around Calcaterra is tied to the ceiling. He has experience in the offense, but Stowers' receiving profile and testing numbers give the Eagles a younger, more explosive player to develop. Calcaterra can change that conversation by being steady in every area. If he blocks well, wins underneath, handles special teams work and continues to show trust with Jalen Hurts, he can remain a useful TE2 option instead of getting framed as a player vulnerable to being passed on the depth chart.

3. DT Jalen Carter
Carter is already one of the most talented defensive tackles in football, which is why the standard is different for him. The chatter around him is not about whether he can play. It is about whether he can dominate every week, stay healthy, and become the full-time force Philadelphia needs in the middle of the defense.
Training camp gives Carter a chance to reset the tone immediately. The Eagles' defensive front has star power and depth with Jordan Davis , Moro Ojomo , Byron Young , Ty Robinson , Gabe Hall , Ta'Quon Graham, Zion Wilson, Uar Bernard, and others in the mix, but Carter is the centerpiece. If he looks explosive, conditioned, and consistently unblockable in team periods, the conversation moves away from questions and back toward his All-Pro ceiling. Few players on the roster can change the energy of camp faster.
4. QB Jalen Hurts
Hurts does not need to prove he is Philadelphia's franchise quarterback, but he does enter a season where the offensive conversation has changed. A.J. Brown is gone, DeVonta Smith is the clear No. 1 wide receiver, and the Eagles added Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown , Dontayvion Wicks , and Elijah Moore to reshape the passing game. That puts more attention on Hurts' timing, chemistry, and command.

The negative chatter around Hurts often ignores winning and focuses on style, structure, or how much help he has had around him. Camp will not settle every national ranking debate, but it can show whether the new receiver mix is coming together. If Hurts is sharp with Smith, builds quick timing with Lemon, uses Wicks and Moore efficiently, and takes advantage of Hollywood Brown's speed, the conversation shifts from uncertainty to offensive upside. His summer is less about proving himself and more about proving the transition can work.
5. WR Darius Cooper
Cooper's challenge is simple: The wide receiver room got more crowded. Smith, Lemon, Hollywood Brown, Wicks, Moore, Johnny Wilson , Britain Covey , Danny Gray , Samori Toure , Erik Ezukanma , and Quez Watkins give Philadelphia a deep group competing for roster spots and practice reps. That makes it difficult for Cooper to generate attention unless he makes plays consistently.
The negative chatter is not about one bad performance. It is about whether there is a path. Cooper can change that by becoming difficult to ignore. He has to show strong hands, route detail, toughness after the catch, and special teams value. The Eagles may not have many open receiver jobs, but camp always creates movement. If Cooper stacks practices and makes plays in preseason games, he can push himself from fringe name to legitimate 53-man roster discussion.

6. C Cam Jurgens
Jurgens is locked in as one of the most important pieces on the offensive line, but the conversation around him is tied to stability. The Eagles need him healthy, consistent, and in command of the interior after an injury-affected 2025 season for the line as a whole. With Chris Kuper leading the offensive line room and several young depth pieces competing behind the starters, Jurgens' camp performance will help set the tone up front.
The negative chatter is less about ability and more about durability and continuity. Philadelphia's offense is built around Hurts, Saquon Barkley , and a line that must control games physically. If Jurgens looks strong, communicates cleanly, and handles interior power during camp, the Eagles can feel better about the middle of the offense. A clean summer from him would calm one of the more important quiet concerns on the roster.
7. DB Michael Carter II
Carter is one of the more interesting defensive backs on the roster because his value is tied to versatility. He can factor into the slot picture, safety packages, and sub-defense looks, but the Eagles also have a crowded secondary with Mitchell, Woolen, DeJean, Ringo, Bennett, Jonathan Jones, Mukuba, Marcus Epps , and several other defensive backs competing for roles.

The negative chatter around Carter is about fit. Does he have a defined role, or is he simply another versatile defensive back in a room full of them? Camp can answer that. If Carter shows he can handle nickel work, safety responsibilities, and communication in sub-packages, he becomes more than depth. He becomes a useful chess piece for Vic Fangio. In a secondary built around disguise and flexibility, that kind of role can matter more than a traditional depth chart listing.
Final analysis
The Eagles have several players capable of changing how fans and analysts talk about them before the regular season begins. Some need to win jobs. Some need to hold roles. Some need to remind everyone why they were trusted in the first place.
That is what makes camp important. The first depth chart will create conversation, but daily performance will shape the real answers.
