- Eagles vs. Commanders: Good, bad, and ugly from Philadelphia's loss
The Philadelphia Eagles finally gave their fans something to cheer about early Sunday night. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. A 10-0 first-quarter lead against the Washington Commander s turned into a 27-10 defeat , extending Philadelphia's losing streak to six games and adding another prime-time performance that offered more questions than answers.
This one was particularly frustrating because the Eagles showed flashes of the football they can play. They forced a turnover, found creative ways to score, and had chances to keep the game competitive. Sadly, those moments became increasingly difficult to find as the night progressed.

Philadelphia's opening 15 minutes were its most productive first quarter of the season. The Eagles had managed just 10 first-quarter points through their previous six games, including three against the Los Angeles Rams and seven against the Dallas Cowboys . They matched that total in one quarter against Washington, then disappeared offensively for the rest of the night.
The good: A few players still showed some fight
Andrew Mukuba gave the Eagles an early spark when he punched the football loose from Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo. Zack Baun recovered the fumble at Washington's 26-yard line. Philadelphia needed only three plays to turn the takeaway into a touchdown. Saquon Barkley finished the drive with a three-yard score on a direct snap out of the Wildcat formation.
Elijah Mitchell also showed a little burst in a limited opportunity. He finished with 34 yards on 11 carries, hardly a performance that will change the conversation about Philadelphia's running game, but there were moments when he looked capable of creating something with the ball. Eli Stowers gave the Eagles another small positive by recording his first three NFL receptions, finishing with 53 yards.

Marcus Epps deserves recognition, too. He isn't a perfect safety. He has his limits, but his effort rarely disappears. He recorded a well-timed pass breakup that helped Philadelphia avoid an even bigger problem after Washington threatened to turn a downfield completion into another damaging sequence. The defense also benefited from a roughing-the-passer penalty that erased a would-be interception after Dallas Goedert couldn't secure a catch. The crowd made its displeasure known, but it was the right call.
Then Tanner McKee scrambled for 15 yards to convert a third down. Let that sink in for a second. The quarterback isn't exactly known for making plays with his legs, but he found a way to move the chains when Philadelphia needed it.
The most encouraging message came afterward from Saquon Barkley. Asked about an ESPN report that the Eagles would not trade him and whether he wanted to remain in Philadelphia, he made his position clear .
"I would love to be here... I don't like the way the season's going. I'm not one of those guys that's like, 'Oh, the season's not going the way we (want). Let's just jump ship.' That's not the type of person you want to have, not the type of person I am. I've got to be part of, right now, we've got a problem we've got to fix. Hopefully, I'll be one of the reasons why we fix it."
Barkley is dealing with injuries. This season has been nothing like what he or Philadelphia expected, but his willingness to take responsibility and stay committed is exactly the kind of mentality this team needs right now.

The bad: Philadelphia couldn't sustain anything
A 10-point advantage disappeared before halftime. Washington scored 13 unanswered points in the second quarter, and the Eagles never recovered. McKee looked far less comfortable than he did against Dallas in Week 7, and one of Philadelphia's most promising drives ended with a costly strip sack.
McKee finished with 212 passing yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. Washington brought him down five times, and his struggle to handle pressure became increasingly apparent as the game wore on. The Eagles also struggled to create separation without their usual receiving options, making it harder to find answers when the offense needed a play.
The downright ugly: The same problems keep resurfacing
Washington's 11-play, 89-yard touchdown drive showed how easily opposing offenses can move the ball against Philadelphia. Jayden Daniels completed five of six passes for 49 yards and added a 14-yard scramble up the middle. The Eagles generated little meaningful pressure, letting Washington dictate the possession and finish with a touchdown.

The Commanders entered the matchup as the league's worst team on third down. They weren't much better on Sunday night, but they were good enough. Philadelphia still allowed them to convert five of 13 attempts. The pass rush failed to consistently disrupt Daniels, and the return coverage kept giving opponents favorable field position. Washington opened the game with a 44-yard kickoff return and added a 27-yard punt return before halftime.
The offensive decision-making was just as frustrating. Philadelphia had a clearly placed Barkley on a pitch count, yet still put him in a situation where he was asked to take a half-ending carry on a possession that wasn't designed to be aggressive. There was little reason to expose an injured player to unnecessary contact in a moment that offered minimal upside.
What's next: The Giants are waiting
The Eagles don't have much time to dwell on another loss. The New York Giants visit Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Nov. 8, and Philadelphia needs to make several important decisions before the week gets away from it. The first is at quarterback: Does McKee get another opportunity, or has the time arrived to seriously consider Joe Milton?

The coaching staff also needs a clearer plan to protect the quarterback and build an offense that can function under pressure. Thursday's practice will offer another important checkpoint on personnel availability, but the larger question is whether Philadelphia can put a more dependable group on the field and give it a plan that plays to its strengths.
The Giants game is the Eagles' final opportunity before their Week 10 bye to show that this season can still be redirected. Another loss would send them into the break with even more difficult questions and very little evidence that the current approach is working.
