The wave of former teammates airing grievances about Evander Kane's time with the San Jose Sharks showed no signs of slowing down. But the latest voice to join the chorus wasn't a player. It was the wife of one of the most iconic Sharks in franchise history.
Christina Marleau, wife of longtime San Jose superstar Patrick Marleau, reportedly claimed that her husband "had a strong disgust" for Kane during their overlapping years in teal. According to the information, which was initially shared via former Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel's Instagram story, Marleau was allegedly so uneasy around Kane that he refused to let his children enter the team's locker room whenever Kane was present.
The claim carries extra weight given Marleau's standing in the hockey world. He is widely regarded as one of the most respected and mild-mannered veterans the sport has seen, making the alleged intensity of his feelings toward Kane all the more notable.
Christina Marleau's comments arrived as Gabriel has been publicly sharing his own stories about Kane's behavior during their shared time in San Jose, adding fuel to a growing public reckoning around the controversial forward. He notably mention how everyone in the dressing room called out Kane for his gambling issues.
Kane, however, did not stay quiet for long.
In a post on his personal X account, Kane pushed back directly on the "strong disgust" characterization. He wrote that Marleau "had no problem reaching out to me when he needed help with your son's school project," adding that he "graciously obliged" and that Marleau "was appreciative enough to send me a very nice thank you afterward."
Kane then posed a pointed question: "So either his 'strong disgust' disappears when I'm useful to him, or the story you're telling doesn't quite match reality."
He also reportedly indicated in a separate statement that people have grown "too comfortable speaking" while he remains silent, warning that when he eventually shares his perspective, he will bring "facts, receipts, and the actual truth."
None of these claims from either side have been independently confirmed, but we have all heard, for the past many years, about Kane's controversial behaviours.
The online reaction has been predictably split. Some fans pointed out that multiple former teammates voicing similar concerns lends credibility to the pattern of allegations. Others questioned Christina Marleau's credibility and motives for speaking publicly.
The back and forth between Kane and his former San Jose circle shows no signs of cooling off, and each new exchange only seems to raise the stakes for whatever Kane's full response eventually looks like.
