Max Johnson 's college football career has been less of a straight line and more of a survival course.
The former Texas A&M quarterback is heading into his sixth and final season at Georgia Southern , giving himself one more chance to write a better ending after injuries repeatedly ripped away his momentum.

Johnson has now spent time at LSU , Texas A&M, North Carolina and Georgia Southern, turning a once-promising SEC career into one of the sport's strangest and toughest journeys.
Johnson arrived at Texas A&M during the Jimbo Fisher era, when quarterback stability had become almost mythical in College Station.
Kellen Mond had been the rare exception, starting for four seasons without missing a game.
After Mond left, the Aggies seemed trapped in an endless cycle of injuries, emergency replacements and wasted seasons.
In 2023, Conner Weigman opened the year as Texas A&M's starter before suffering a season-ending foot injury against Auburn.

Johnson took over and immediately stepped into a beating.
He helped the Aggies finish off Auburn, then started against Alabama , Tennessee , South Carolina and Ole Miss.
Johnson nearly dragged Texas A&M back against the 10th-ranked Rebels in a 38-35 loss, reportedly playing through broken ribs while absorbing punishment behind an offense that couldn't consistently protect him.
That defeat became one of the final blows to Fisher's tenure.
When Mike Elko replaced Fisher, Johnson entered the transfer portal and landed at North Carolina.
His fresh start lasted only until a devastating leg injury threatened to end his playing career altogether.

Johnson didn't quit.
He fought his way back, returned for another season with the Tar Heels and has now transferred to Georgia Southern for one final run.
He's played in only 17 games over the past four seasons, but the fact that he's still playing might be more impressive than any passing statistic.
His coaching resume is almost unbelievable. Johnson has worked under Ed Orgeron, Jimbo Fisher, Mack Brown, Bill Belichick and now Clay Helton.
The son of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson isn't guaranteed to start at Georgia Southern, and his best statistical season remains his 2021 campaign at LSU. But this final chapter isn't just about winning a depth-chart battle.

It's about proving that football never managed to break him.

Texas A&M fans remember the chaos surrounding Johnson's time in College Station. They should also remember the toughness.
After everything his body has endured, Max Johnson is still asking for the ball.
