And just like that, it's curtains for former Denver Broncos cornerback Sam Webb.
Just days after signing with the New York Giants , and playing in their preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings , Webb appears to have suddenly retired from the NFL on Monday . Webb lasted one practice with the G-Men, and played 14 snaps against the Vikings , making two tackles before being placed on the reserve/retired list, per Giants Wire .
Prior to his retirement, the veteran corner had bounced around the NFL, with most of his on-field experience coming with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and 2024. In his career, Webb recorded 45 tackles, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble returned for a touchdown in 36 career games (five starts).
Webb originally signed with the Broncos after a successful tryout in late July, but was later released after Denver signed cornerback Ricardo Hallman to their 91-man roster. Hallman had tried out for the team alongside Webb after rookie defensive back Blake Cotton was hurt in practice .
Webb now appears to be heading into retirement at the age of 28.
