The fallout from former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore's firing continues to grow more disturbing, as a former wide receiver has now made explosive claims about what was happening behind the scenes inside the program.
Wide receiver Anthony Simpson, who transferred to Michigan from UMass last offseason and entered the transfer portal last week, alleged in a series of since-deleted posts on X that Moore was being "blackmailed" by players and staff members, and that it directly affected playing-time decisions.
Simpson Claims He Was Treated Unfairly
According to multiple reports that captured his deleted posts , Simpson wrote that the scandal surrounding Moore hurt both the team and his own career.
"If I kept my mouth closed no one would know that I was a part of a scandal that impacted the team and impacted my chance to add to my production in college," Simpson wrote. "Tried to stay at Michigan but the 'GM' said there wasn't a roster spot for me. God has plans for us all and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me. Thank you Michigan."
Simpson then made his most serious allegation.
"Targets vs non targets, I was the best slot receiver for Michigan and I was treated unfairly due to [Sherrone] Moore being blackmailed by players and staff members. Which jeopardized my opportunity to get on the field."
He also claimed that performance was never the issue.
"Fastest player on the team and I won reps every day in practice. Only there for fall camp. Our team captains also advocated for me to play. I was denied fairness."
Teammates and Former Players Respond
Not everyone in the Michigan locker room appeared to agree with Simpson's version of events.
Starting slot receiver Semaj Morganresponded on social media, writing, "Y'all let people tell y'all anything and believe it," according to Click On Detroit.
Former Wolverines wideout Cristian Dixon added, "if only y'all knew and understood a .10 of what he really saying tho," while former center Raheem Anderson simply replied, "Dat part," suggesting there may be more complexity to the situation.
The Backdrop: Moore's Firing and Legal Troubles
Moore was fired with cause on December 10 after an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with an executive assistant. He was later arrested and charged with felony home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. Prosecutors allege he broke into the woman's home and made alarming statements, and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 22.
Multiple sources previously described Moore's affair as the program's "worst-kept secret," adding to the sense that turmoil had been brewing internally long before the firing.
What Happens Next
Michigan has not commented publicly on Simpson's allegations. Simpson has since announced he is transferring to Toledo.
Whether his claim of "blackmail" is accurate remains unproven, but his words add another unsettling layer to a scandal that continues to cast a long shadow over the Wolverines.
