The Kansas City Chiefs have built a historic dynasty in the modern era, securing three Super Bowl titles and two runner-up finishes under the leadership of Patrick Mahomes . But along with their stellar resume, they have also faced consistent backlash over alleged officiating bias and rigged games almost every year.
That criticism took a sharp new turn recently, when former NFL nose tackle Breiden Fehoko released an official statement on social media targeting Arrowhead Stadium.
Breiden Fehoko Clarifies Calls Chiefs' Arrowhead Most Rigged Venue
The Chiefs improved to 5-0 on Sunday with a 22-6 win over the winless Los Angeles Chargers (0-6) at Kansas City's home stadium. Running back Kenneth Walker III rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Mahomes earned his 100th career win in 131 starts, tying Tom Brady for the fewest in NFL history.

Fehoko, 30, played exclusively for the Los Angeles Chargers during his active regular-season NFL career, appearing in 19 games between 2020 and 2022. He ignited the debate again on Fearless with Jason Whitlock, recalling his time with the Chargers. "We always knew the Chiefs were gonna get a ghost call in the fourth quarter, and that's how the game was to me," he said .
His Tuesday statement walked that comment back, then escalated the broader claim. "After reflecting on those comments, I believe my statement was foolish, reckless, and poorly worded," Fehoko wrote .
"Playing at Arrowhead Stadium is the most rigged venue in professional sports since Tom Brady left Foxborough," he continued. "It has become a joke. And I believe players who have competed against the Kansas City Chiefs know exactly what I'm talking about."
In a 2024 game against Cincinnati, officials flagged Bengals defensive back Daijahn Anthony for pass interference on a fourth-and-16 with 48 seconds left. The penalty set up Harrison Butker's game-winning field goal in a close 26-25 Chiefs win. However, it was not an isolated incident.
Critics point to several other late-game whistles that went Kansas City's way. Just weeks later in September 2026, referees called a controversial roughing the passer penalty on Miami Dolphins defender Chop Robinson during a crucial third-down stop. Similarly, during a September 2024 game against Atlanta, officials missed a clear pass interference violation by Chiefs safety Bryan Cook in the end zone. The non-call forced a turnover on downs and sealed another narrow victory for Kansas City.
A University of Texas at El Paso Research Study added more fuel to the fire last year. It reviewed more than 13,000 penalty calls from 2015 to 2023. Researchers found that 'postseason officiating has disproportionately favored the Patrick Mahomes–era Kansas City Chiefs.' The most shocking part? The study found no such pattern for any other teams in the league.
