For the biancorossi, the poor run continues, only partially halted by last week's draw in Parma . Today's defeat, added to those against Inter and Udinese , leaves the Brianzoli in second-to-last placewith just one point, alongside Genoa , Parma and Bologna , who still have to play.
Among the teams near the bottom, Juric's side remains one of the most troubled, especially when it comes to defending. Once again today, Lecce score three goals in twenty minutes, two of them from corners. A detail that certainly won't please the former Roma coach.
The Salentini start with their foot on the gas and dominate the first half, taking the lead after just 3 minutesthrough Lassana Coulibaly ,who rises at the back post from Ilic's corner.
Lecce keep pushing and in the 11th minutethey double their lead, again from an Ilic corner. This time the scorer changes, with Tiago Gabriel stepping in for his teammate.
At that point Monza realise they have to react and begin to raise their tempo, finding the goal that reopens the game as early as the 20th minute: Birindelli crosses from the right, Robinson creates the space and Mangaspulls one back into an empty net. It seems like the momentum might shift, but Lecce respond again and just a minute later make it 3-1 through Coulibaly, who grabs his bracefrom close range and, in effect, seems to put the result beyond doubt.
In the second half Monza try to work their way back into the match, but Lecce do brilliantly to contain Juric's side. At least until the 88th minute, when Falconefumbles an harmless free-kick from Zeballosand ends up knocking the ball into his own net.
The blunder by number 30 sets up a nail-biting finale, with Monza believing again and Lecce pinned back in their own box.
In the end, though, Di Francesco's wall holds firmuntil the final whistle, which sends the Via del Mare into raptures. Lecce win, take home three massive points and leave Monza five points behind.
