On Saturday, the Falcons announced they have signed starting left guard Matthew Bergeron to a four-year contract extension worth $96 million, including $60 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Bergeron was entering the final year of his rookie contract and would have become a free agent after the season.
The extension is another major statement from the Falcons' front office as it continues rewarding homegrown talent. Atlanta has made it a priority to secure its emerging stars with long-term deals, reinforcing a roster built around youth, stability and continuity.
General manager Ian Cunningham praised Bergeron's impact both on and off the field.
"Matthew is the type of player you build around," Cunningham said in a team statement. "He's establishing himself as one of the top young guards in the NFL, and his toughness, consistency and leadership have made him a cornerstone of our offensive line and the culture we're building in Atlanta."

Falcons locks down key starter
Bergeron has developed into one of the league's most dependable interior offensive linemen since being selected by the Falcons in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His physical style of play, durability and versatility have helped solidify an offensive line that has become one of Atlanta's greatest strengths.
For Bergeron, the extension represents far more than financial security.
"This means the world," Bergeron told Atlantafalcons.comn. "I'm from Canada, and the second I got to Atlanta everybody welcomed me with open arms. Atlanta is a special place for me and my family. And now, I have the resources to give back to a community that has given me so much and changed my life."

The deal sends a clear message about the Falcons' long-term vision. By keeping Bergeron in place alongside their talented offensive core, Atlanta is strengthening the protection in front of its playmakers while maintaining continuity in the trenches.
With training camp underway and expectations rising for the 2026 season, the Falcons have made it clear they believe Bergeron will remain a key piece of their championship aspirations for years to come.
