The Atlanta Falcons are 0-2 to begin the 2026 NFL season, and it's thanks in large part to some truly terrible quarterback play. Cooper Rush has struggled, and even Jack Strand didn't play well.
He came on late in the Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers , and on his first pass attempt in the NFL, he threw a pick-six. That's just about the worst way a player could begin their NFL career.
However, as ESPN's Marc Raimondi shared, Strand has joined two Super Bowl champions with this unfortunate NFL history.
Jack Strand joins two Super Bowl champions with INT history
"From ESPN Research: Jack Strand is the first QB to throw a pick-six on his first career pass attempt since Sam Darnold in 2018. Strand is the first Falcons player to do that since Brett Favre in 1991," Raimondi shared.
No quarterback wants to begin their NFL career with a pick-six, but the most recent Falcons quarterback to achieve this feat, and the most recent QB in NFL history overall, both went on to win the Super Bowl.
Favre went on to win a title with the Green Bay Packers , and just last season Darnold won the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks .

Strands' first pass being a pick-six isn't necessarily an indicator of his NFL future. If it did indicate what his future will hold, he'll eventually win the Super Bowl during his career.
The only unfortunate thing would be that it wouldn't come with the Falcons if Strand were to mirror the career paths of Darnold and Favre after throwing a pick-six on his first pass.
This Week 2 opportunity might be Strand's only chance to play in the NFL this season, as Michael Penix Jr. is potentially coming back for Week 3.
But even if the Falcons undrafted free agent doesn't make another appearance, his first pass being a pick-six isn't a bad indicator, as it might initially seem.
