Pavel Zacha scored his second hat trick of the season Sunday. But the 5-4 overtime loss to the Penguins didn’t have the Bruins center thinking much about the accomplishment.
“It was a good feeling in the moment. I think after loss you don’t really think about it anymore,” Zacha said after the game. “I think, we’re leading most of the game, so it was a good feeling I was able to score a third goal. But right after the game it kind of goes away if you don’t win. So that’s kind of part of it.”
The Bruins watched a three-goal deficit disappear at PPG Paints Arena as Pittsburgh scratched and crawled its way back into the game and eventually forced overtime.
Despite the loss, Zacha was a bright spot for the Bruins. Coach Marco Sturm has been adamant that the veteran forward plays his best hockey at center. And he’s found chemistry on the second line with Viktor Arvidsson and Casey Mittelstadt .
“Today he scored three, but he always gets those chances,” Sturm said. “In the past, he missed a lot of nets or he got saved or whatever it is. But (Sunday) it went in. So for me, it’s the same old path. He’s been great all year. And we always talk about that line, right? And they did it again today, and he’s a big part of it.”
Every point is important from here on out for the Bruins as they hold onto the second Wild Card spot. After Sunday’s loss, Boston holds a three-point edge over the Columbus Blue Jackets and sits a point behind the Detroit Red Wings — who are in possession of the first Wild Card spot.
