Florida State fired their football coach, Mike Norvell, Sunday after he produced five losing seasons during his seven-year tenure in Tallahassee.
Norvell's firing could (and probably will) trigger a mass-exodus of players during a special transfer window that opens once coaches get fired.
Going forward, Florida State needs to re-recruit and retain these five players.
DL Kevin Wynn: Wynn has 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one sack on the season. He has at least one tackle in seven of the eight games played this season.
With the firing of defensive coordinator Tony White , Wynn could benefit from further coaching and development at his position from whoever takes over the defense on the new coaching staff.
RB Ousmane Kromah:Kromah was on his way to a potential 1000-yard season running the football for the Seminoles when he went down with a season-ending ankle injury in the loss to Miami .
In seven games, Kromah rushed for 609 yards, which led the team. He recorded five rushing touchdowns.
At the time of his injury, Kromah ranked third in the ACC in rushing yards per game with 87 yards per contest.
The Seminoles need Kromah back healthy toting the rock next season.
WR Michai Danzy:With elite track speed, Danzy was under-utilized by Norvell. Currently, Danzy has 23 catches for 401 yards and three touchdowns. He has averaged 17 yards per catch.
Danzy also averaged 16.60 yards on kickoff returns.
Against Clemson , Danzy caught four passes for 108 yards (27-yard avgerage) and a touchdown in the 36-24 loss.
In the loss to Louisville, Danzy scored two receiving touchdowns.
A two-sport star at Florida State , Danzy also runs track for the Seminoles .
WR Duce Robinson:Robinson is lost for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Next season though, Robinson will be an asset for the next head coach.
The next head coach should be able to recognize Robinson's elite receiving skills and his height advantage could be of some use in the red zone.
Robinson was leading the team in receiving at the time of his injury: 24 catches, 438 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 18.25 yards per catch.
LB Chris Jones:The leading tackler on the team with 56 tackles, Jones also has four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and six quarterback hurries.
A leader on the field and in the locker room, Jones has registered six or more tackles in seven of eight games played, including nine tackles twice.
In the loss to Clemson , Jones racked up 10 tackles.
Jones has two years of eligibility left.
All of these players are difference makers. But it takes the proper coaching and development for them to reach their full potential.
The coaching and development were lacking on a consistent basis each game week, and it showed on the field. It cost Norvell his job.
Florida State's next head football coach will need to actually coach and develop his players if the Seminoles football program is to return to glory.
