Danny Briere wrapped up his offseason work Tuesday by taking care of the Flyers ' final restricted free agent.
The club and Hunter McDonald agreed to terms on a new two-year, $1.825 million contract. The deal is a two-way contract in Year 1 and a one-way contract in Year 2, while the average annual value of it is $912,500.
McDonald will remain an RFA when the deal expires after the 2027-28 season.
The 24-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut last season in the Flyers' regular-season finale. He had an assist and a plus-3 rating in the team's 4-2 win over the Canadiens .
The 6-foot-4 product recorded six points (all assists) in 65 games for AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley last season. He had an even plus-minus mark and compiled 92 penalty minutes. The season before that, he had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists), a plus-12 rating and 99 penalty minutes in 71 games.
"Just continuing to progress in the game that is going to help him get to the NHL," John Snowden, the Phantoms' head coach, said in June of what he expects from McDonald. "He's big, he can skate, he takes up space, he plays a physical, hard game. And then just continuing to understand what that identity is and continuing to grow in those areas."
The 2022 sixth-round pick is projected to open the season in Lehigh Valley and will be a call-up option for the big club.
