The Philadelphia Flyers have loaned forward Alex Bump back to the AHL, the team announced on Monday morning.
Bump, 22, made the initial Flyers roster out of training camp, but was very quickly loaned back to the AHL following some early-season struggles. He returned to the Flyers following the surge of injuries, joining the Flyers in a time of need, alongside Cole Knuble .
Bump got 5 games in with the Flyers during this recent stint, but in 8 total games this season, he has yet to register a point.
Despite not appearing on the score sheet, he has done everything the Flyers want him to do, except score. He is playing with more physicality and a much more North-South style.
Bump played in 5 games for the Phantoms so far this season, scoring 7 goals including at least 1 in each game. It helped earn him his call up to the NHL. Bump just has not been able to find those same gaps he finds in the AHL in the NHL.
With Owen Tippett and Travis Konecny being activated off IR, and Cole Knuble's impact early on, Bump found himself in the press box. It seems more like a decision to get him playing games rather than sitting in the press box.
"There are a lot of young guys," said head coach Rick Tocchet on Bump's demotion. "He could get called up very soon. We're just trying to get a rotation, and then we'll go from there."
The Flyers have an open roster spot now with Bump's return to the AHL. Now, we will watch to see what they do with that. Could we see Hunter McDonald back in the NHL sooner rather than later?
