The Philadelphia Flyers play hockey today. Well, sort of.
Flyers rookies are taking the ice at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA, to play the New York Rangers rookies in the first game of the Rookie Series.
Friday was the one practice day ahead of the two-game series against the Rangers. It gave a sneak preview of what may come for the Flyers' rookies at camp.
The forward group is headlined by the trio of young Flyers who made an NHL impact last season. Porter Martone, Denver Barkey , and Alex Bump are in Allentown for the Rookie Series. Jett Luchanko is also playing this year. He is the 4th player in the series to have played an NHL game in both the regular season and playoffs last year.
Luchanko centered Bump and Notre Dame product Cole Knuble during Friday's practice . Barkey played between Martone and former Boston University winger Owen McLaughlin.
Defensively, the Flyers had a pair of London Knights playing together on Friday. 2026 first-rounder Maksim Sokolovskii was paired with former London Knight Oliver Bonk, who also played in both a regular-season and playoff game for the Flyers.
Ty Murchison and Spencer Gill made up the second pairing for the Flyers.
Lineup Update for Flyers Rookie Series Game on Saturday
For Saturday's matchup, per Jackie Spiegel of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who is in Allentown for the Rookie Series, Brek Liske was quarterbacking one of the power-play units, likely meaning he is in the lineup for Saturday.
Based on PP units, looks like these #Flyers prospects are playing tonight
Liske, Bump, Ciernik, Luchanko, Knuble
Gill, Gard, Pautov, Sauer, Quinn
Bjarnason in net but will get confirmed by Snowden
I don't believe Martone and Barkey are in, which means they probably play Sun— Jackie Spiegel (@jackiespiegel93) September 12, 2026
With Bjarnason in net on Saturday, that means either Martin Psohlavec or Marek Sklenicka will likely play on Sunday. Gill being in also means that Ty Murchison will likely return to action after missing the end of the 2025-26 season with an injury.
You can stream Saturday's rookie series game on the Flyers website. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm ET.
