There's still time—but right now, it certainly looks like Xavier Legette's odds of sticking around in NFL are slim.
Legette looked a little promising at times as a rookie, then had himself a very disappointing second season with the Carolina Panthers . And this year, the 2024 first-round pick has been hit with more misfortune.
His 55-yard catch in Week 2 helped ignite the team's 34-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons. However, Legette apparently suffered a knee injury on the play—and, after missing the Week 3 loss in Cleveland, was placed on injured reserve yesterday.
Perhaps what Legette needs is just a change of scenery.
According to Kristopher Knox at Bleacher Report , Legette is the Panthers' most tradeable asset. Knox writes:
During the 2024 draft, the Carolina Panthers traded into the back end of Round 1 to select wide receiver Xavier Legette. Since then, though, Legette has struggled to establish himself as a reliable go-to receiver . . . While Legette isn't developing as expected in Carolina, he would undoubtedly interest other receiver-needy teams. He's battled drops (10) but is still a young 6'1", 221-pound pass-catcher with 4.39-second speed.
While Legette has undeniable athletic gifts, he's been unable to find his footing in the NFL. Once thought of as a possible No. 1 target for quarterback Bryce Young, he was put into a battle for the No. 3 spot with 2026 third-rounder Chris Brazzell II—a fight he won by default after Brazzell's season-ending knee injury early in training camp.
The Panthers, unfortunately, likely wouldn't get more than a sixth-round pick for Legette. That said, it's probably worth it at this point to cut their losses and get what they can.
