Former Florida Panthers star forward Jonathan Huberdeau is continuing his return after having hip resurfacing surgery and will not be able to start training camp with the Calgary Flames .
Calgary general manager Craig Conroy told Sportsnet that Huberdeau is not ready for training camp after having season-ending surgery in March.
"There's an appropriate timeline for this, between seven and nine months, and obviously we were hoping for the earliest return possible,'' Conroy said. "But everybody is different."
Huberdeau had hip resurfacing surgery hoping that it was early enough that he could be ready for the start of the season.
Conroy said Huberdeau is skating but there is not a timeline on his return to the lineup.
"We're gonna see how this kind of goes through camp and see how he's doing, and when he's 100 per cent he'll be ready to go," Conroy told Sportsnet.
"He looked good today and he's on the right path. We're probably going to have him just skate with the coaches on his own to start, just to be careful."
Huberdeau, 33, was the third-overall pick of the Panthers in 2011 and spent 10 seasons with Florida.
After scoring a career-high 30 goals and 115 points in 2021-22, Huberdeau was traded to the Flames as the cornerstone piece of the Matthew Tkachuk deal.
The Panthers also included MacKenzie Weegar , Cole Schwindt ,and a first-round pick in the trade. Weegar is now with Utah; Schwindt ended back up with the Panthers last season.
Huberdeau signed a eight-year contract with the Flames worth $10.5 million annually not long after the trade.
