Less than a week before the Miami Hurricanes do battle in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the team's fan base is getting more good news for next season.
Palm Beach County product Jake Weinberg , who played at American Heritage-Delray, has announced that he is "coming back home," transferring from Florida State to Miami.
Looking back: American Heritage-Delray top kicker Jake Weinberg makes it official with Florida State
Weinberg spent the 2024 football season playing behind a sixth-year senior and converted his only field goal attempt and his only point-after. In 2025, he became the team's starting place-kicker and he converted 12 of 19 field goal kicks in addition to being a perfect 46-for-46 on extra points.
With his departure, Weinberg posted on his personal Instagram: "Thank you FSU for everything, to my teammates, friends, and everyone who has supported me. I couldn't be more thankful."
The former local star finished his career with Heritage-Delray with four 50-plus field goals, including a 57-yarder in 2022 and a 52-yarder this season. Thirty-one of Weinberg's 33 kickoffs sailed through the end zone for touchbacks during his high-school career.
Former American Heritage head coach Brandon Rooze said that Weinberg could "kick the crap out of it," but also praised the star kicker for his work ethic and character.
"He's such a good person and representation of what it means to be a student-athlete at American Heritage," Rooze said. "He's a good student, great teammate and really well-respected. I never see in high school a kicker being voted team captain by his peers.
No. 10 Miami is set to play No. 1 Indiana in the National Championship on Monday, Jan. 19.
