A former Georgia Bulldogs , Florida State Seminoles and Oklahoma Sooners edge rusher is getting a shot at the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks signed edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr. as an undrafted free agent, according to the Oklahoma football X account .
Jones started as one of the best high school recruits in the class of 2022. Coming out of American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he was a member of 247Sports' All Freaks List of 2022. He was a five-star prospect who ranked as the No. 2 edge rusher prospect and No. 21 overall prospect in the nation.
The Bulldogs earned his commitment on Dec. 15, 2021. However, in two seasons with the Bulldogs, Jones struggled to break into the rotation. He had 16 tackles, 5 1/2 tackles for loss, and two sacks through two seasons. He was on the Georgia team that won the 2022 national championship, but after the 2023 season, he entered the transfer portal.
Jones landed with the Florida State Seminoles and performed better , recording 25 tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks in 2024. However, he had just 16 pressures on the season. The Seminoles went from 13-0 the year prior to 2-10 in 2024, so he transferred again.
He committed to the Oklahoma Sooners , and his numbers were down: 21 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. He had 15 pressures as well. He received his first playing time in the College Football Playoff. He earned a sack against Alabama 's Ty Simpson in the first round of the playoff, although Oklahoma lost 34-24.
At 6-foot-5 and 262 pounds, Jones still has the prototypical size to play edge, and he gets to go to the Seattle Seahawks, where former Georgia assistant coach Mike Macdonald is the coach.
