The New York Mets decided to cut ties with a few arms during the offseason, hoping to reshape what they can do on the mound.
The Mets staff looks pretty good right now, including the rotation and bullpen. Among the options that they decided to let go of, he recently found a new job with one of the worst teams in the league.
After spending six seasons with the Mets, Drew Smith has signed with the Minnesota Twins on a minor league deal, giving him a chance to work his way back into a big league role.
Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reported the deal.
“Twins signed veteran relievers John Brebbia and Drew Smith to minor league deals. They’ll join Triple-A St. Paul’s bullpen.”
I'm not saying that Smith is exactly an elite arm by any means, but this is a guy who was in the league for the prior six years before missing 2025.
In his career, he was an arm who could put up an ERA around 3.00 and get outs in the bullpen. There's something to be said about that, especially for the price teams could have gotten him at.
