The Steelers interviewed McCarthy on Wednesday, one of three candidates to interview in-person, along with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Social media reactions poured in after the news broke that McCarthy will be the Steelers' next head coach. Several former Steelers players were not happy with the decision. The fanbase was also rather pessimistic, hoping for a younger hire. McCarthy is 62.
