Few things in life fell apart as fast as the Pittsburgh Steelers ' 2020 season, and one former NFL tight end has seemingly placed the blame on Ben Roethlisberger 's knees.
According to ex- Steelers tight end Eric Ebron , a big part of the Steelers' late-season collapse in 2020 was Roethlisberger being unable to line up under center, which unfortunately left the offense one-dimensional.
"We had a meeting, Ben called all the starters in to the meeting," Ebron said. "He was like, 'Fellas, my knees are getting bad, I'm not going to be able to get up under center.' So I go, 'We're one-dimensional?' We're about to pass out of shotgun and run out of shotgun, makes it very obvious for the defense.
"When you're running out of shotgun, you're 5-6 yards behind the 8-ball. … They figured out we went one-dimensional, Ben wasn't getting under center, they started sending everything. They realized bro couldn't move, man, we was cooked. There ain't enough short routes in the route tree for that sh--. Every route that we had that year was no more than 3-4 yards. We threw 1-2 shots a game. Safeties were sitting at eight yards, I thought they were linebackers."
In 2020, the Steelers were red hot out of the gate, winning their first 11 games of the season. But Pittsburgh lost four out of its last five games of the season, which Ebron blamed on the offense being one-dimensional.
