Unless you're a Milwaukee Brewers fan, you probably wanted the Tampa Bay Rays to win last night. Not because you want Tampa Bay to win the World Series, but because you don't want the Fall Classic to end yet, especially with the looming lockout possibly canceling games next year. The Brewers held a 3-0 World Series lead entering last night's game, so a Milwaukee win would've ended the Fall Classic.
Former Minnesota Twins right-hander Griffin Jax did baseball fans a major favor last night, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks over four innings while striking out six as the Rays beat the Brewers 4-3 in extra innings . Jax's two runs allowed in four innings translates to a 4.50 ERA, which isn't great, but if it were a regular-season game, he likely would've thrown another inning. All things considered, Jax had a good start and played a key role in extending the World Series to at least one more game.
Jax, whom the Twins traded to the Rays for right-hander Taj Bradley at the 2025 trade deadline, had been a reliever for most of his career before the Rays converted him back to a starter this year. In the 2026 regular season, Jax posted a 3.53 ERA with 116 strikeouts over 112 1/3 innings. In three outings this postseason, he has posted a 5.40 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 10 innings.
Baseball fans will remember Tuesday night's game for a long time. Chandler Simpson gave the Rays a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. Cooper Pratt tied the game with an RBI double in the fourth inning.
Tampa Bay quickly reclaimed the lead when Junior Caminero scored on a throwing error by third baseman David Hamilton, who then redeemed himself by hitting a game-tying home run in the fifth inning.
The game remained tied 2-2 through the 12th inning. Pratt broke the tie with a solo home run in the top half. The Rays rallied in the bottom half, with Jonny DeLuca tying the game on an RBI single, then Ben Williamson hitting a walk-off single.
Game 5 of the World Series at Tropicana Field is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday. NL Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski will start for Milwaukee. Tampa Bay hasn't announced its starting pitcher yet.
