MIAMI — The 2026 MLB trade deadline has come and gone, and it was a busy final day Monday for the Miami Marlins .
Liam Hicks was the first name to go, as the club sent Hicks to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Rays minor league prospects Brayden Taylor, Jacob Kisting and Adrian Santana.

Hicks' name had been floating around for a few weeks leading up to the deadline, with Miami relying on rookie Joe Mack as its catcher of the foreseeable future.
The move also leaves questions surrounding Agustín Ramírez , who remains at Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Marlins will have to determine how Ramírez fits into their long-term plans behind the plate as they continue evaluating their catching options.
Miami then dealt left-hander Braxton Garrett to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for the Cubs' No. 10 prospect Jonathan Long and No. 28 prospect Jace Beck, a pitcher.
Garrett was a member of Miami's 2023 team, the last Marlins club to secure a playoff spot.

The left-hander dealt with injuries in recent seasons but remained a familiar name within the organization after being selected seventh overall by the Marlins in 2016.
The Garrett trade marks another move toward the future for the Marlins, who continue prioritizing prospect returns as they evaluate their roster while eyeing a playoff spot in 2026.
The Marlins also traded infielder Connor Norby and pitcher Aiden May to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for reliever Victor Vodnik .
Norby was acquired with Kyle Stowers in the July 2024 trade that sent pitcher Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles .
The Marlins decided to hold on to Stowers after the Hicks news, with the outfielder/first baseman drawing interest from the Houston Astros , according to reports.

Norby hit .205 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 65 games for Miami this season, including 43 starts at first base and 13 at third base, before being sent down to Triple-A Jacksonville on June 26.
May, who was drafted No. 70 overall in 2024 out of Oregon State, posted a 3.80 ERA at High-A Beloit this season and has a 3.47 ERA in 24 minor league appearances.
The acquisition of Vodnik bolsters the Marlins' bullpen, which lost Lake Bachar in the closing minutes before the deadline arrived.
Vodnik, 26, owns a 3-3 record with a 5.25 ERA, 19 walks and 26 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances with Colorado this season, but the high ERA comes with context, as pitching at Coors Field is always a challenge.

In return for Bachar, who blew a lead in the series finale July 26 at loanDepot park against the San Diego Padres , the Marlins acquired three Pittsburgh Pirates prospects: right-handed pitcher Brandon Bidios, infielder Hyun-Seung Lee and outfielder Brian Sánchez.
According to Barry Jackson , "the Marlins listened but ultimately rejected trade overtures for shortstop Otto Lopez , second baseman Xavier Edwards and outfielder Heriberto Hernández."
According to Jackson, the Marlins "never considered" trading pitchers Sandy Alcantara , Eury Pérez and Max Meyer , who is currently on the injured list.
Jackson also noted that catcher Joe Mack was also considered "off limits in trade talks."

"The Marlins were open to trading closer Pete Fairbanks , but the asking price increased because Fairbanks has pitched well recently and the team entered play Tuesday in the thick of the National League Wild Card race at 58-55," according to Jackson.
First pitch from Truist Park on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.
