Gabriel Pec finalized his transfer to Cruzeiro after three seasons with LA Galaxy , leaving as one of MLS's most productive wingers with nearly 70 goal contributions in 101 games. The Brazilian winger departs as a 2024 MLS Cup champion, MLS Best XI selection, and the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Pec arrived at LA Galaxy in January 2024 as the club's most expensive signing at that time, costing around $10 million from Vasco. His immediate impact exceeded all projections, transforming the Galaxy's attack and helping restore the club among MLS's elite after years of instability.
The 2024 campaign established Pec among MLS's offensive elite. In 33 regular season games, he scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists for 30 direct goal contributions. Across all competitions, he finished with 17 goals and 16 assists, numbers that placed him among the continent's most productive players.
Pec became the youngest player in MLS history to reach at least 15 goals and 10 assists in a single season (excluding the shootout era). Only Lionel Messi matched his combination of high goal and assist totals in 2024, with the two dominating the league's offensive production statistics from wide positions.
The Galaxy maximized Pec's existing strengths rather than transforming his game. At Vasco in 2023, he showed flashes as a vertical, physically strong winger excellent in transitions, but often operated in isolation with limited support. The Galaxy's high-pressing, offensive system created completely different conditions.
Playing alongside creative midfielders like Riqui Puig , Pec received more balls in dangerous positions to attack defenders one-on-one. He gained freedom to attack the box as a second striker rather than staying wide for width, directly contributing to his goal-scoring surge.
Pec's defining trait is his acceleration with the ball—few players can cover ground at speed while maintaining control like he does. He excels at attacking space behind fullbacks, changes direction quickly, and has developed excellent timing for box arrivals.
His decision-making improved significantly at Galaxy. Early in his career, he held the ball too long and over-dribbled. In MLS, he simplified his game, accelerating ball circulation and choosing better moments to shoot or create. His two-footed finishing and 90-minute intensity made him a complete modern winger.
Despite his evolution, areas for improvement remain. His weak-foot crossing needs refinement, and he can still overcomplicate in the final third when simpler options exist. These minor flaws didn't prevent him from becoming one of MLS's most dangerous attackers.
Pec joins Denis Bouanga , Cristian Espinoza , and Joseph Paintsil in MLS's winger elite, but his balanced production between goals and assists sets him apart. While Bouanga operates more as a striker and Messi centralizes Inter Miami 's creation, Pec mastered both functions equally.
His transfer to Cruzeiro reportedly exceeds his original $10 million Galaxy fee, validating MLS as a development platform for South American talent. At just 23, Pec leaves having proven MLS can elevate players to new levels when their skills match the league's tactical demands.
