Getting to Know New Green Bay Packers CB Marlon Jones

The Green Bay Packers came into the 2026 offseason knowing that they needed help at cornerback.
There's simply not a world in which you can consider yourself a Super Bowl contender and have Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine as your two main weapons at corner.

Both players can have their moments, but neither is a true CB1.
The Packers feel they got their CB1 of the future when they selected South Carolina Gamecocks cornerback Brandon Cisse at No. 52 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. He'll need some time to develop, though.
They also addressed depth concerns by picking up Benjamin St-Juste in free agency, and they took a flyer on Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson in the sixth round.
There's certainly a plan in place for 2026 to get better as a whole at cornerback, and on Tuesday, general manager Brian Gutekunst enacted another part of that plan.

So who is Jones? Can he help the Packers find that coveted depth at cornerback in 2026?
Notably, he went undrafted out of Vanderbilt, so don't hold your breath for a major contribution.
With that said, he does bring some interesting experience to the table as a UDFA.
Jones is a former 3-star wide receiver recruit from Tacoma, Washington.
He committed to Eastern Washington out of high school and he played for the Eagles from 2019 to 2023.
He was an extremely productive player for Eastern Washington, which plays in the Big Sky conference.
As a freshman, he played in 12 games and made five starts. As a sophomore, he started nine games and played in all 11 games. He secured three interceptions that season.

Jones' junior season for Eastern Washington saw him earn first-team All-Big Sky honors after he notched 35 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three interceptions (all taken back for a touchdown) in 11 starts.

Jones missed the entirety of the 2024 season after transferring to Vanderbilt. He was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma in the spring of 2024.
That could have caused him to give up on his football dreams. Heck, it could have killed him. Jones didn't let the diagnosis stop him, though. He was in full remission by the time the 2025 season rolled around and he ended up playing in nine games.

He totaled just nine tackles without a pass breakup or interception, but Jones' production at Eastern Washington before his cancer diagnosis make him a really intriguing pickup for the Packers.
Not to mention, he's going to be extremely easy to root for.
