Heading into the weekend, the San Francisco Giants were struggling. The Giants had lost six of eight games , including being swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks . They then lost their first game with the Chicago White Sox , but the team came away with two wins to end the weekend.
The play of Casey Schmitt in the two wins was huge. He went four for eight at the plate with two home runs, a double, six RBIs, and four runs scored. Now, Schmitt is speaking about the clutch performances over the weekend , according to NBC Sports Bay Area.
"This game, it's a tough game. Any time you're able to take a step, and just breathe and relax, it's what I've been trying to do," Schmitt said. "Raffy had a huge grand slam out there. Chappy is having great at-bat, swinging the bat well. It's going all throughout the lineup. We're feeling good. Were tryin not to do too much. Were a really close group and just trying not to do too much."
The Giants ' offense, which is currently 29th in the majors in runs scored, exploded over the weekend. They scored 18 runs in the last two games. Rafael Devers was a major part of that as well. In the two games, he is three of nine at the plate, with five RBIs and two runs scored. Willy Adames is also hitting well. He was three for eight over the weekend with a home run and an RBI, plus he scored three times.
The Giants are just 22-31 on the year, sitting in fourth in the NL West. They open a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.
