Finding positives has become increasingly difficult during a disastrous season for the San Francisco Giants . Jung Hoo Lee and Rafael Devers' surge come to mind.
San Francisco is 59-85, fourth in the National League West and 27.5 games behind the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers .

Had the perennial last-place Colorado Rockies performed better during the final stretch, the Giants could be sitting at the bottom of the division.
Young talent emerging
One benefit of the difficult season has been the opportunity for the front office and manager Tony Vitello to evaluate numerous young players.
The Giants have used 22 rookies, including 14 who made their MLB debuts.
The results have been mixed.
Several young pitchers suffered season-ending injuries, while position-player call-ups have ranged from successes such as Bryce Eldridge to disappointments such as Grant McCray .
Jonah Cox has emerged as one of the pleasant surprises.

The speedy 25-year-old center fielder brings an elite glove and the ability to create problems whenever he reaches base.
Cox always possessed athleticism, but questions surrounded his bat.
He has eased some of those concerns in limited action, hitting .289 with four home runs, 10 RBIs and an .836 OPS in 44 games.
Cox has also stolen nine bases on 10 attempts and scored 18 runs despite spending much of 2026 moving between San Francisco and Triple-A Sacramento.
His personality has also made an impression.
Cox chews a mouthpiece similar to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, has some unusual habits and possesses a charismatic personality that has helped lift spirits inside the Giants clubhouse.

The former Oral Roberts University standout and sixth-round pick has performed better than advertised, creating questions about his eventual role.
Cox's upside
Becoming an everyday MLB player may remain unlikely, but Cox does not need to become a regular to provide significant value.
His defensive ability in center field should translate comfortably to either corner outfield position, giving Vitello flexibility when constructing lineups or making late-game changes.
Speed provides another weapon.
Cox can enter as a pinch runner and immediately alter how pitchers, catchers and infielders approach an inning.

His ability to deliver in important situations could also make him useful as a late-inning bat off the bench.
Players with that combination of athleticism and versatility frequently become valuable pieces on contending rosters.
Cox can defend multiple positions, impact games with his legs and bring energy without requiring an everyday role.
He ultimately projects as a fourth outfielder, but successful teams consistently need players capable of contributing in several different ways.
As the Giants begin traveling down a road toward rebuilding and redemption, Cox has shown enough to earn consideration as one of those useful pieces.
