The New York Giants return from their bye week with a clear goal: win the NFC East. After sitting out last week, the team stands at 4-2-1 and holds a two-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys. Since 2023, this marks the Giants' initial opportunity to prioritize a division championship over mere pride. The path looks open, but the road ahead remains tough.
Big Blue survived a rough stretch to get here. Their last five games all came down to one score in the fourth quarter or overtime. They won three of those five contests thanks to better execution when it mattered most. It was not pretty, but it worked. General manager Joe Schoen told Newsday that the players earned this spot through hard work. "So, they've earned that right to be in these games, and I know they're excited about it," Schoen said. The team now faces a wounded Philadelphia Eagles squad that has lost six straight games.

Injuries Test The Depth
Most teams would have folded under the injury list the Giants carry. Quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a season-ending injury in Week 2. Star pass rusher Brian Burns played one more week before his season ended too. Leading tackler Tremaine Edmunds is also out for the year. Yet the team remains in first place. Jameis Winston held things down while J.J. McCarthy stepped in to ignite the offense. This resilience shows why head coach John Harbaugh was hired to bring a gritty style to the franchise.
Division Rivals Stumble
The Giants owe part of their success to their rivals falling apart. The Dallas Cowboys blew a 14-point lead on Sunday and lost to the Arizona Cardinals in overtime. The Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Washington Commanders, extending their losing streak. Washington showed they can beat the Eagles, but the Commanders have a history of late-game mismanagement. Yahoo Sports reports that the Giants now sit firmly in the driver's seat of the division. The gap to Dallas and Washington has widened significantly.

Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor knows the stakes have changed. He told Newsday, "I've been waiting my entire career so it's cool as hell." He wants to play meaningful games in December. "I want to play December ball when it means [something]. Like every game is going to be meaningful the rest of the way," Eluemunor added. The team watched other games during the bye and saw their chances grow.
Two Key Games Ahead
Sunday brings a trip to Lincoln Financial Field to face the Eagles. The Giants have not won at that stadium since 2013. A win there would put more distance between them and Philadelphia. Should they fail, a home matchup versus the Commanders on Thursday night provides a rapid path to recovery. Sports Illustrated notes that Harbaugh has a 15-3 record coming out of a bye. His teams have outscored opponents by 181 points in those games over the last few years.
Running back Devin Singletary sees the hard work paying off. "That's why you go so hard," Singletary told Newsday. He explained that training camp and practices were built for these specific moments. "That's why the training camp is how it was, the practices are how they are. For the moments that we've had and [that are] coming up." The Giants have a shot at their first division title since 2011 if they can just keep winning.
