The New York Giants cannot afford to wait on their defensive line. Sole possession of first place in the NFC East belongs to a team sitting at 3-1, yet the front office recognizes roster gaps. Big Blue View reports that the scouting department is already looking at specific college targets for the 2027 draft. The priority is clear: find a disruptive force in the middle who can play immediately. Waiting for a veteran free agent is a bad plan when the right college prospect is sitting on the board.
The German Soccer Star Turning Heads
Hero Kanu from the Texas Longhorns is the name every Giants fan should know. He is not a typical draft prospect. He grew up in Geltendorf, Germany, playing soccer before switching to American football. He was a latecomer to the sport, but he moved to the United States to enroll at Ohio State. After three years there, he transferred to Texas in 2025. Only 3.5 sacks and 8 tackles for a loss mark his career, making his stats less than eye-popping on paper. Yet, his production has jumped since he became a starter for Texas.

Kanu presented a genuine issue for Tennessee last week, per Big Blue View. He acted as a consistent disruptive force in the Vol's backfield. This is exactly what the Giants need. The team must continue to build their defensive tackle rotation. If Kanu keeps stacking games like he did against Tennessee, his profile will rise fast. He brings a unique background that suggests high football IQ and adaptability. A player who learned the game late often plays with a hunger that veterans lose.
More Options on the Red River
The Giants have other eyes on the field this weekend, too. Sports Illustrated highlights David Stone from Oklahoma as a key watch. Stone is a 6-foot-3, 312-pounder with great length and a strong anchor. He can play multiple spots on the defensive front, which adds value. He is healthy now after a dislocated kneecap just two weeks ago. Stone has the strength to expose the Texas offensive line, which has struggled with pass protection. If he shows he can shed blocks and win battles, he could be a first-round pick.
There is also Maraad Watson from Texas, a 6-foot-3, 313-pound nose tackle. Watson is a local boy from Irvington, New Jersey. He could improve his draft stock by refining his run-stuffing ability. While he might be a Day 3 pick right now, his physical prowess to take on double-teams makes him a target. The Giants need a bona fide nose tackle to hold the point. Watson fits that mold perfectly if he stays consistent.

The Clock Is Ticking for Big Blue
The Giants cannot just hope these players fall to them. The team needs to act if the value is right. While a player like Cayden Green might slip to the second day, Big Blue View suggests the Giants should not wait given the more urgent defensive line need. They can't easily move on from Jon Runyan Jr. until after 2027, so the offensive line is stable for now. The defense is where the holes are. The scouting department and coaching staff concentrate their efforts on what lies ahead. They see the needs along the interior of both lines. Drafting Kanu or Stone would signal a commitment to building a tough, physical front that can dominate the trenches for years.
