James, an Auburn product, was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 192 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft and was waived before the start of that season.
The 25-year-old spent time with the New England Patriots from 2024-25, appearing in one game last season and recording one tackle.
The Giants are adding James to a cornerback room headlined by Paulson Adebo , Greg Newsome , Andru Phillips , Deonte Banks and rookie Colton Hood. He will get the chance to vie for a role on the team this summer as training camp wears on.
