The Giants are signing WR/KR Dalen Cambre to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday night's season opener.
It remains to be seen exactly what this means for the status of star receiver Malik Nabers , who is carrying a questionable tag into the primetime contest after working his way back from a torn ACL.
Nabers has been progressing well, but the Giants are ultimately leaving the decision to play or not up to him.
With Darius Slayton cut loose earlier this week, having Cambre take his spot on the roster gives New York some depth in case Nabers decides he isn't ready to play.
If Nabers is ultimately good to go, Cambre could still be inactive or only contribute on special teams, while still leaving the two practice squad elevations available.
The 25-year-old has been praised as a special teams standout since coming to the Big Apple as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana last season.
He spent most of his time on the practice squad, but did appear in seven games.
