The San Francisco Giants haven't had much luck making the playoffs lately, and a few slumping stars under massive contracts are exactly why.
This offseason is going to be an extremely interesting one for the team, as they failed to move the likes of Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, and Jung Hoo Lee at the trade deadline.

San Francisco made a ton of moves, headlined by moving on from Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray, but they still have these enormous contracts on the books for years to come.
Bleacher Report 's latest article focused on which trades every team should make in the offseason; Kerry Miller discussed why Chapman's contract is the "most preferable" to trade.
Giants owe Chapman another $100 million
Miller knows that Chapman isn't owed the most money out of the quartet of players he named, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a valuable trade asset in the offseason.
Remember, Chapman underwent season-ending surgery in mid-August, so while he's expected to be ready for the start of the 2027 season, that'll definitely be something for interested teams to monitor.

Then again, who's going to be interested in Chapman? He's 33 years old, just hit .235, and is going to be under contract through 2030.
The Giants owe him just over $25 million per year through 2030, meaning he doesn't become a free agent until he's 38 years old.
The California native came to San Francisco in 2024 and immediately delivered a 7.1 WAR season, which was the second-best of his career.
It's gone down each year since he's been with the team, and Chapman hasn't been able to have an at-bat in the playoffs since 2023.
Chapman has had just four at-bats that haven't come at third base during his time with the Giants.

If they were able to get his deal, and potentially even another off the books, Japanese slugger Teruaki Sato could come in and play third base.
That feels like a fever dream at this point in time, but it's one of the many reasons why trading Chapman feels like the best option out of the four names presented.
With how hot Devers was to end the season, he shouldn't go anywhere. The team still believes in Adames, but Lee's name has also been on the chopping block as he's set to make $63 million across the next three seasons, unless he opts out of the final two years of his deal.
