Detroit netminder John Gibson exited the Red Wings game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after the first period with an apparent lower body injury, and has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

The Red Wings started Gibson in the second game of their back-to-back series in Florida, having Daniil Tarasov start in the first game, and step in between the pipes for the second period onward against the Lightning. Gibson blocked 11 of 13 shots faced against the Lightning tonight, with both goals coming from Braden Point, once on the power play, and once at even strength.
The Red Wings have given Gibson the nod in net to start ten times this season, excluding tonight, with the netminder accumulating a 4-5-1 record and a 3.37 GAA. Detroit relied heavily on Gibson in the back half of last season after he accumulated a 17-4-1 record from December through January. The veteran would finish the season with a 29-22-4 record on the year, starting the third most games of his career in his age 30 season.
While Gibson's status is not yet known beyond tonight, the Red Wings do have the option to call up exciting goalie prospect Michal Postava if Gibson's injury lingers beyond the next two nights. Detroit next plays at home against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and will likely make the call up for Postava, as Tarasov will have played back to back nights in Florida and may not be up to three games in a four day span.
