📸 Goal against old flame: Bundesliga man pulls an anti-Rocco Reitz
Two weeks ago, Leipzig star Rocco Reitz caused quite a stir when he celebrated his goal against former club Gladbach with his tongue sticking out. Before his summer move, he had spent 17 years playing for the Foals.
A similar situation now unfolded in Mainz: SGE striker Jonathan Burkardt made it 2-0 against his old love shortly before half-time. Before his transfer in 2025, he had spent no fewer than eleven years playing for the Rheinhessen.

Burkardt handled it differently from Reitz and chose not to celebrate after scoring. He pointedly raised both hands, kept his tongue to himself, and was clearly making an effort not to provoke the Mainz fans. Only then did the striker allow his teammates to celebrate with him.
The goal paved the way for Frankfurt's 3-1 away win in Mainz.

What do you think: Was this the right decision? Or is not celebrating against a former club completely overblown anyway? Let us know in the comments!
