Ohio State Buckeyes star Jeremiah Smith and Miami Hurricanes receiver Malachi Toney are both expected to be Heisman Trophy contenders this year.
In the 45-6 win against Stanford, Toney caught 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. During one of his end-zone celebrations, he posed like the man on the Heisman Trophy. Smith did the same after an excellent first half in the season opener against the Ball State Cardinals. The Buckeyes wide receiver caught eight passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Fans can already feel the friendly Heisman battle brewing between the two in the 2026 season:

Malachi Toney converted 12 of 14 targets into receptions and broke the school's single-game receiving record with 234 yards. Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah threw five touchdown passes to complete Miami's most lopsided season-opening win over an FBS opponent since 2003.
After showing nice chemistry with the quarterback, Toney set the bar for Miami's offense.
"It's amazing man, every weekend we got, we just keep getting better," Toney said after the game . "The sky's the limit. There's no limit, actually."
Toney also applauded the quarterback for making his job easy on the field.
"It's just effortless," he said. "You know, he understands how to get open, and it just makes it that much easier for me to do my job. So it's easy."
Toney won ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2025 after he led the nation in receptions as a true freshman. Toney's Miami will next face Florida A&M at home.
