The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 in Game 1 at Ball Arena, thanks to 36 saves by Carter Hart . After the game, the goalie discussed what the Knights did to steal Game 1, according to theScore.
“We know they’ve got a lot of skill on their team, and we respect that. But you can’t respect them too much, and I thought we did a good job of defending and limiting their time and space,” Hart told theScore
The Golden Knights were without Mark Stone, and still managed to outplay the Avs from nearly the start. While the Avalanche made a push in the second period, they also allowed two goals, which put them in a hole. Hart stayed steady throughout, enduring a power play by the Avalanche in the second and early into the third period. When the Golden Knights took a 3-0 lead, the Vegas goalie survived the eventual Avalanche push and held on for his teammates to pot an empty-net goal for the win.
There was not much fanfare for the Golden Knights before this series began. But the Knights held firm, not allowing any of the Avalanche to have any space. Moreover, they contained Nathan MacKinnon , holding him to just three shots. While the Colorado superstar had an assist, it was not enough to overcome the Golden Knights.
There were high expectations for Hart in this series. Significantly, it was his third straight game of allowing two or fewer goals. Hart had also allowed two or fewer goals in seven of his last eight playoff games. Despite a rough start to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Vegas goalie has come alive and given the Golden Knights the much-needed 1-0 series lead.
