- Grading the pick: Commanders try to help Jayden Daniels but it probably won't work out like they hope
The Commanders’ future revolves around Jayden Daniels, so setting him up for success is paramount. Adam Peters and Co.’s latest draft pick backs that up, but we’ll see if he lives up to expectations.
Jayden Daniels should always be at the forefront of the Washington Commanders’ plans, but Adam Peters did him no favors on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
That’s because the team failed to provide Daniels with a big, athletic target that can help take the pressure off Terry McLaurin, while providing potential, long-term production.
Sure, the addition of Antonio Williams gives Daniels a productive college target, but the fit doesn’t make much sense. Especially when based on our own evaluation. His injury history only adds to the risk, as well.
“Antonio Williams is a highly productive football player who was once considered a first-round pick. He has the size and skill set to play inside or outside, and he's crafty in his routes.
“Some of the perceived drop-off from Williams is due to the decline at the quarterback position and the lack of staying power Clemson has shown as a program over the last few seasons.
“At his best, Williams is a player who can dissect the middle of the field and make big plays with the ball in his hands. He's not a burner down the boundary, but his 4.4 speed is noticeable when he gets the rock, and he's hard to tackle in open space. He dealt with some injuries in 2023 and again in 2025, but he could wind up being a steal if he falls to the mid rounds.”

Final Word
There’s a lot to like about Williams’ game and the Commanders need a legit, dynamic option next to Terry McLaurin. However, the Commanders also need size at the receiver poistion.
It’s a disturbing trend that’s honeslty haunted the receiver room since Adam Peters and Dan Quinn gained control of the franchise. The Commanders have never had a wideout taller than 6-foot-2 on the roster since 2024 and it’s obviously affected the offense.
That’s why taking a guy like Williams instead of let’s say, a Bryce Lance doesn’t make a lot of sense. Dyami Brown returned for a reason and Luke McCaffrey should take a step forward in Year 3. It’s obvious the Commanders need a big-body wideout instead of a quicker, smaller guy, yet they continue to avoid investing in that kind of player.
