Regis Le Bris is running out of time to save his Sunderland tenure as frustration grows at the Stadium of Light.
The owners have made the decision to back the manager for now, but that could quickly change if the Black Cats fail to win their next game.
After losing out to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, Le Bris' side must now welcome Chelsea to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, 7 November.
As it stands, Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League table, but a victory could see them move closer to safety this weekend.
The squad is being stretched across all the competitions this season, with suggestions that an exit from Europe might be best for the Black Cats.
What simply can't happen is relegation from the Premier League, so these are three changes that Le Bris must make to turn things around.
Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka is still the club captain, but even the most experienced of players can go through rough patches like he is right now.
The Swiss international had one of his worst performances in a Sunderland shirt against Zagreb, losing possession 29 times in 90 minutes [ Sofascore ].
His passing was off, he lacked sharpness in duels, and he caused more issues than he solved. Xhaka needs to be the first axed by Le Bris.
Granit Xhaka sparks concern as ex-Sunderland employee points the finger 'Disaster' - Stefan Borson drops verdict on Sunderland sacking Regis Le Bris Chris Rigg
Chris Rigg has been pushing for more minutes in recent weeks, but that may have to change after his display in the Europa League.
He was deservedly hooked at half-time, having compeleted none of his dribbles, won none of his duels, and was relatively ineffective in the final third [ FotMob ].
Wilson Isidor
And speaking of ineffective forwards... Wilson Isidor was given the chance to shine against Zagreb, but he didn't quite take his chance.
He may have had four shots, the most of anyone, he couldn't find the final ball or find the back of the net in midweek.
If Brian Brobbey is ready to play again, it's a no-brainer switch up-front. Even Tymur Tutierov may feel he deserves a shot against Chelsea.
