- Green Bay Packers place former 5th round pick on IR, sign veteran offensive lineman to active roster
The G reen Bay Packers have a short week before taking on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, they are going to have to play this Week Eight game with their offensive line even more depleted than it was before.
Earlier this year, starting right tackle Zach Tom was lost for the year due to a torn patellar tendon. Aaron Banks, Green Bay's preferred starting left guard before the season began, has been battling knee and toe injuries and has barely played.
Now, the Packers look like they will be without the top two centers on their depth chart for some time.

On Sunday, Green Bay fell to the Detroit Lions by the score of 20-17. Unfortunately, they lost more than just the game. Starting center Sean Rhyan went down early with what is believed to be a high ankle sprain. Just a few plays later, backup center Jacob Monk was taken off the field with a quad injury.
On Monday, the Packers announced Monk was being placed on injured reserve:
Monk, a fifth round pick in 2024, has not been the interior force that Green Bay envisioned he would be up to this point in his career.
He is being replaced by Mekhi Becton, a veteran offensive lineman who the Packers signed a few weeks ago when Monk and the rest of Green Bay's offensive line struggled to start the regular season.
While it is nice that the Packers had Becton ready to fall back upon, the fact of the matter is that the number of injuries this team has already sustained is rather concerning.

Green Bay Packers center Jacob Monk (62) blocks Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez (50) while quarterback Jordan Love (10) drops back to pass during the fourth quarter of their game Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minnesota Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers 39-22.
