- Green Bay Packers promote familiar face ahead of Week 2 matchup against the Jets
The Green Bay Packers have added some familiar help to their wide receiver group, promoting Bo Melton from the practice squad to the active 53 man roster. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the move on Monday.
Melton has also spent time working at cornerback in the past, but he will join Green Bay 's active roster as a wide receiver.
Melton began his NFL career after the Seattle Seahawks selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. His ability to contribute on both sides of the ball briefly drew comparisons to Jaguars star Travis Hunter .
Green Bay later signed him from Seattle's practice squad in 2022, and he has remained with the Packers as a backup. Melton's most productive season came that year, when he recorded 16 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown. He has since totaled 29 catches for 426 yards and two touchdowns with Green Bay.

The 27-year-old is joining a Packers team looking to put its disappointing Week 1 result behind it. Green Bay fell 39-22 to the Minnesota Vikings after struggling to close out the game, putting more pressure on the team heading into its next matchup.
Green Bay will travel to face the New York Jets on September 20, with Matt LaFleur facing increased scrutiny. Another loss could add even more pressure to the Packers head coach.

Melton's promotion provides depth and familiarity to a Packers receiving corps searching for consistency after Week 1's collapse. While he's not a difference-maker, his ability to contribute on special teams and provide veteran presence in the locker room adds value.
